Helen Fletcher

My work is in the crossover of fine art, textile and film. I have made several large-scale (ranging from 3m X 1.5m to 1.1 X 1.5) textile drawings of cotton thread on organza. I have also combined this element of textile drawing into experimental film where female figures reassemble. My work uses the language of thread to illustrate the experience of internal disintegration and the fragility of existence. The delicacy of the stitch is often in stark contrast with the themes portrayed in the images. The viewer is invited into the privacy of 'behind closed doors' events not normally discussed in public but experienced by many people.
