Janet Clark
I am interested in old tiled paths where the pattern has disappeared with passing feet; patterned fabrics where the stitches have been distorted with wear; old stone windows which have worn unevenly with the passage of time.
I like things which are the same but different; glass bottles which reflect light from the outside and deep colour from the inner contents; glass baubles which glint and shimmer in changing light; coloured jewellery reflecting dancing light as it moves with the body.
I move patterns from fabrics and paint them on canvas; I cut wrought iron table tops with patterned paper; I create opaque lampshades with iridescent swirls.
I compare and contrast, mix and match, control and let the whole spectrum of colour and light and texture and repetition and randomness find a new form and home in a 2D world.
